[ Applies to ] StorageGuard 9.x and later / Dell PowerFlex systems / PowerFlex MDM
StorageGuard collects configuration data from Dell PowerFlex by opening an HTTPS connection to the PowerFlex manager (MDM) and running read-only REST API calls. Optionally, it also runs read-only CLI commands over SSH. This article describes the requirements and how to create the scan account.
In this article
Requirements
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Manager address | The IP address of the PowerFlex manager (MDM). |
| Credentials | A user name and password for the REST API and CLI. |
| Role and permissions | The account needs the Monitor role, which includes most view operations but no management operations. Examples of read-only REST API calls used: /api/types/System/instances, /api/instances/System/action/queryLdap, and /api/types/ProtectionDomain/instances. |
| Network access | HTTPS connectivity from the StorageGuard server to the PowerFlex manager, and SSH (port 22) for the optional CLI commands. |
Tip: We recommend also preparing the PowerFlex manager host for scanning. See Storage Management host | Scan Requirements.
Create a scan account
The following procedure is a suggested way to create a user with the Monitor role.
- Log in to the PowerFlex manager (MDM) over SSH as
root. -
Log in to the PowerFlex CLI as an administrator:
scli --login --username admin -
Add the scan user with the Monitor role. Replace
<name>with the user name:scli --add_user --username <name> --user_role Monitor
