StorageGuard collects configuration data from CTERA by connecting to the CTERA Portal management interface over HTTPS and retrieving configuration and system information through its APIs. This article describes the requirements and how to create a read-only scan account.

Requirements
| Requirement | Details |

| Portal address | The IP address or host name of the CTERA Portal that manages the devices. |
| Credentials | An account with unlimited read-only access to CTERA global administration and to each portal. |
| Role and permissions | Read-only administrative permissions that can view configuration, device status, shares, and system information, globally and for each portal. Read-write privileges aren't required. Example of an API call used: /admin/api/TeamPortal. |
| Edge Filers | If Edge Filers are managed through the CTERA Portal, the account must also be able to access device information through the Portal API. |
| Network access | HTTPS connectivity (TCP port 443) from the StorageGuard server to the CTERA Portal management interface. |
Create a scan account
The following procedure is a suggested way to add a read-only global administrator in the CTERA Portal web interface.
- Log in to the CTERA Portal management interface with an administrator account.
- In the global administration view, go to Users > Administrators.
- Click New Admin.
- Complete the required fields, such as Username, Email, First Name, Last Name, and Password.
- In the Role field, select Read Only Administrator.
- Make sure the account Status is Enabled.
- Click Save.
