[ Applies to ] StorageGuard 9.x and later / HPE XP storage systems / HPE Intelligent Management Suite (IMS) or SVP
StorageGuard collects configuration data from HPE XP storage systems by running read-only REST API calls, either on the Intelligent Management Suite (IMS) or directly on the SVP if IMS isn't used. We also recommend enabling OS-level access for complementary configuration collection.
Note: HPE Intelligent Management Suite (IMS) is an OEM version of Hitachi Ops Center.

Choose a connection option
| Option | StorageGuard connects to | Use when |
|---|---|---|
| Option 1: Through IMS | The IMS API Configuration Manager, which manages the registered arrays | IMS is installed and the arrays are registered to it |
| Option 2: Directly through the SVP | Each array's SVP | IMS isn't used. Not available on older HPE XP models. |
Option 1: Scan through IMS
Requirements
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| IMS Configuration Manager | The IMS API Configuration Manager software is installed, and the storage arrays are registered to it. |
| IMS host address | The network name or IP address of an IMS host. |
| Credentials | An IMS application user name and password, assigned to the Security Administrator (View Only) group. |
| Account on the storage system | The same user account must also be defined on each storage system. For REST API authentication, use an account registered in the storage system, or one managed by the external authentication servers (or approved external servers) connected to the storage system. |
| API access | The user can access https://[Server]:443/portal and https://[Server]:23451/ConfigurationManager. Examples of API calls used: GET https://[Server]:23451/ConfigurationManager/configuration/version and GET https://[Server]:443/portal/security/v1/password-policy. |
| Network access | HTTPS connectivity from the StorageGuard server to each IMS server on ports 443, 23451, and 23450. |
| OS access (optional) | An OS user account on the IMS (Ops Center) host, as described in Storage / Backup Management host | Scan Requirements. |
Create the scan account
In IMS:
- Log in to the IMS interface with an administrative account.
- On the Administration tab, click Users and Permissions.
- Click Add User.
- Assign the user to the built-in Security Administrator (View Only) group, which includes these roles:
- Security Administrator (View Only)
- Audit Log Administrator (View Only)
- Storage Administrator (View Only)
On each storage system (SVP):
- Log in to the SVP user interface with an administrative account.
- If you use a local user, create the same user account: go to Administration > Users and Permissions > Create New User.
- Assign the user to the Security Administrator (View Only) group.
Option 2: Scan directly through the SVP
Note: Direct REST API access isn't available on older HPE XP models. For those arrays, use Option 1.
Requirements
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| SVP address | The SVP IP address of each array. |
| Credentials | A user name and password assigned to the Security Administrator (View Only) group. |
| API access | The user can access https://[SVP IP]:443/ConfigurationManager. Examples of API calls used: GET https://[SVP IP]:443/ConfigurationManager/v1/objects/storages and GET https://[SVP IP]:443/ConfigurationManager/configuration/version. |
| Network access | HTTPS connectivity (port 443) from the StorageGuard server to each SVP. |
| OS access (optional) | An OS user account on the SVP host, as described in Storage / Backup Management host | Scan Requirements. |
