[ Applies to ] StorageGuard 9 and later / All supported storage, backup, SAN and cloud systems / Windows and Linux deployments
StorageGuard is installed. Three short steps before you connect any systems: sign in, add your license, and learn where things are. Then move on to connecting your environment.
In this article
Before you begin
- StorageGuard is installed, directly on the operating system or as a container, and the service is running.
- You have the admin password set during installation.
- You have your license key from Core6.
- In a browser, open
https://<server-name>:8443/CS. Replace the host name with your StorageGuard server's, and the port if you changed it at installation. - If the browser warns about the certificate, that's the self-signed certificate StorageGuard installs with. Proceed for now, and replace it once setup is done.
- Sign in as admin with the password set during installation. StorageGuard opens on the Baseline Configuration overview.
Note: Settings, where the rest of this article happens, is open to administrators only. For central authentication instead of local passwords, see Connect to Active Directory and Set up single sign-on with Azure AD or SAML.
Add your license
- Go to Settings > Admin > License.
- Click Add License, paste the license key you received from Core6, and click Save.
- Check that the license appears with its expiry date and the number of systems it covers. That number is the ceiling for what you'll connect in the next section.
For how licensing counts systems, renewals and expiry warnings, see Manage your license.
Find your way around
The product tabs across the top are where you'll work day to day; Settings is where you configure it.
| Tab | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Baseline Configuration | Misconfiguration findings against your enabled policies, and the overview score. |
| Vulnerabilities | Findings from vendor advisories and CVEs. |
| Compliance | Pass and fail per check, by policy and system type. |
| Assets | Inventory of the systems StorageGuard scans. |
| Reports | On-demand and scheduled reports. |
| Comparison | Golden image comparison across systems. |
| Change Control | Configuration changes over time. |
| Settings | Scan scope, authentication, scheduling, diagnostics, interfaces and administration. Administrators only. |
The menu next to your user name, top right, has Help & Support, Documentation, the Baseline Assistant, and Logout.
Tip: Two settings worth doing early, though neither blocks the next step: a mail server, so reports and notifications can go out (Set up email notifications), and a knowledge base update, so the first analysis uses current advisories (Keep the knowledge base up to date).
What to do next
You're set up. Connect StorageGuard to your environment walks you from the first data source to a confirmed scan. If some of your systems sit in remote sites or segmented networks, install a collector there first.
