[ Applies to ] StorageGuard 9.x and later / Dell VPLEX and Metro Node systems / Management server
StorageGuard collects configuration data from Dell VPLEX and Metro Node systems by running read-only REST API calls over HTTPS and read-only CLI commands over SSH on the management server. This article describes the requirements and how to create the scan account.
In this article
Requirements
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Management server address | The network name or IP address of each VPLEX or Metro Node management server. |
| Credentials | A user name and password for each management server. |
| Role and permissions | The account needs unlimited read-only rights that let it query all configuration objects. It also needs read-only access to REST API v1 and v2, and SSH access with the ability to run cat on any file. |
| Network access | HTTP or HTTPS (port 443) and SSH connectivity from the StorageGuard server to each management server. |
Create a scan account
The following procedure is a suggested way to create the scan account. The example uses the user name cntuser; you can use any user name.
- Log in to the management server CLI with an administrator account.
-
Add the user:
user add -u cntuser - Change the user's role to readonly (monitor).
- Set the user's shell-access to true.
- Repeat these steps on each management server that StorageGuard scans.
