[ Applies to ] StorageGuard 9.x and later / Dell VxRail / VxRail Manager and VMware vCenter
StorageGuard collects configuration data from VxRail by running read-only API calls over HTTPS on VxRail Manager. This article describes the requirements and how to create the scan account.
Note: The VxRail API authenticates through VMware vCenter or Platform Services Controller (PSC) single sign-on (SSO). Use a vCenter user name and password for the scan account; the API passes the credentials to vCenter / PSC for authentication.

Create a scan account
VxRail Manager doesn't manage vCenter user accounts, so you create the scan account in VMware vSphere. Use one of the following suggested methods.
Option 1: Local user account
- Log in to the vCenter appliance shell as a user with the super administrator role.
-
Create a local user with the Operator role. Replace
<username>with the user name:localaccounts.user.add --role operator --username <username> --password - When prompted, enter and confirm the password for the new user.
Option 2: AD / LDAP user account
- Log in to the vSphere Client as a user with the super administrator role.
- Assign the AD / LDAP user the Read Only role.
