[ Applies to ] AvailabilityGuard / Windows deployments
An AvailabilityGuard deployment has a master server, an Oracle database, and optionally one or more collector servers. Together they collect configuration data from your data center systems and analyze it for availability and resiliency risks. This article describes each component and how they connect.

Deployment components
| Component | Status | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Master server | Required | Windows server that runs the core services: the user interface, data processing, the risk detection engine, and the API. Users open the interface in a browser over HTTPS. The master server can also act as a collector, so a single-site deployment can run on the master server alone. |
| Database | Required | Oracle database used by the master server. It stores the AvailabilityGuard system configuration and the configuration data collected from your IT systems. |
| Collector server | Optional | Windows server that connects remotely to target IT systems and gathers the configuration data needed for analysis. Collectors send the data back to the master server, which processes it and runs risk detection. A deployment can include several collectors. |
| Target IT infrastructure | — | The systems AvailabilityGuard scans and analyzes: hosts, virtual machines, clusters, hypervisors, databases, application servers, blade systems, SAN switches, storage systems, and management consoles in your data centers. |
Architecture diagram
The diagram shows how the components connect: users reach the master server from a browser, the master server stores data in the Oracle database, and the master server or collectors connect to the target systems.

When to add collector servers
Because the master server can also collect data, collector servers are optional. Consider adding collectors when:
- Your data centers span multiple locations. Place a collector in each location so data collection runs close to the target systems.
- The master server can't reach some target systems directly, for example because of network segmentation.
