[ Applies to ] AvailabilityGuard / Configuration tab
After you install AvailabilityGuard, set up what it scans and when it runs. This article walks you through defining the scan scope, scheduling scan and analysis tasks, and running your first scan to find data loss and downtime risks.
In this article
Configure the scan scope
In the Configuration tab, select Configuration Wizard in the left pane. The wizard has five steps:
-
Management systems
Add the IT management systems to scan, such as VMware vCenter, Microsoft SCVMM, Cisco UCS Manager and Oracle Enterprise Manager. Enter each system's name or IP address and assign a connectivity policy with read-only credentials. Click Verify Connectivity to test the address and credentials. -
Storage and SAN systems
Add the storage arrays and SAN switches to scan, such as Dell PowerMax, Hitachi G-Series, HPE Primera and Alletra, IBM V7000, and Brocade or Cisco SAN switches. Enter the name or IP address of the system itself, or of a management system or proxy host that reports its configuration, and assign a connectivity policy. -
Sites Optional
Define your geographical sites and assign discovered hosts and storage systems to them. -
Unix, Linux and Windows hosts
Create host scan groups. Hosts discovered through a management system such as vCenter or SCVMM are added automatically. For other hosts, enter the host name or IP address and assign a connectivity policy. To add many hosts at once, import a CSV file. -
Databases
Create database scan groups.
Schedule scan and analysis tasks
In the Configuration tab, select Scan Scheduling in the left pane, and create one or more scheduled tasks:
| Task type | What it runs | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Full cycle Recommended | Scans all enabled management systems, storage systems, host scan groups and database scan groups, then runs data analysis. | You are setting up your first scan, or want one task that covers everything. |
| Scan | Scans a scope you select, with a maximum scan duration. | You want to scan part of the environment, or limit how long a scan runs. |
| Data analysis | Runs risk analysis on the data already collected. | You want to re-analyze without scanning again. |
Run the scan and review results
AvailabilityGuard runs each task automatically at its scheduled time. To run your first scan now:
- In Scan Scheduling, select the task.
- Click Execute selected task now.
- When the scan and analysis finish, open the Tickets tab to review open tickets for data loss and downtime risks.
