[ Applies to ] StorageGuard 9.x and later / Veritas NetBackup 8.1 and later / NetBackup primary server
StorageGuard collects configuration data from a Veritas NetBackup environment by opening an HTTPS connection to the NetBackup primary server (called the master server in earlier releases) and running read-only NetBackup Management REST API calls. This article describes the requirements and how to create the scan account with a read-only custom role.
HTTPS connectivity (port 1556 by default) from the StorageGuard server to the NetBackup primary server.
Note: Optional: if the NetBackup server runs on Linux, you can also let StorageGuard scan the server host itself. This requires SSH access and an OS user account. See Storage Management host | Scan Requirements.
Create a scan account
The following procedure is a suggested way to create a user and a custom role with read-only permissions in the NetBackup Web UI.
Create the user
Sign in to the NetBackup Web UI as a user with administrative privileges.
Go to Security > Users, and then click + Add.
Enter the user name, assign a password, and continue.
Create a read-only role
Go to Security > RBAC > Roles, and then click + Add.
Enter a role name and description, for example StorageGuard ReadOnly Role.
Under Permissions, click Assign.
Expand Global Permissions, and select View for all subcategories.
Expand Protection Plans, and select View for all subcategories.
Expand Assets, and select View for all subcategories.
Under Users, click Assign, and select the user you created.
